Getting Involved on Campus

Intramural Sports - Besides common sports, there are things like cornhole, pickleball, and co-ed sports! You don’t have to be great because it’s only for fun!  Sorority/Fraternity - There are so many different types that can be geared toward honors, service, religion, or social life.  Student Government - Make an impact on your campus and be an advocate for your peers!  Pageants - Many campuses have small pageants, homecoming courts, and ambassador opportunities.  Tutor - Impart your knowledge on another student who may be struggling! This can be a paid position, and you can make a big difference!  Library or Food Service - Get a job on campus and get tuition discounts and/or pay, along with perks!  Freshman Orientation - Volunteer to be a mentor or student advocate for freshmen and high school campus visits.

Stress Tips

Use lavender to your advantage. This is a very calming scent and comes in shower steamers, bath bombs, pillow sprays, diffusers, and bubble bath. It will calm you without you even realizing it!  Laugh a little! Watching comedic videos or calling a friend to share a few laughs will get your mind off its worrisome path.  Listen to music. This can be your favorite music, spa music, or even nature sounds.  Talk a walk or exercise. This pumps up your endorphins, which are the feel-good neurotransmitters in your brain.

Campus Essentials

Headphones! Sometimes you have to study in a noisy area, and listening to low-fi study music can help eliminate distractions.  Mini umbrella! I have to walk a long way to get to class some days, and I would be soaked without my umbrella.  Water bottle or mug! Classes can be long and tiresome. Staying hydrated will keep you awake and give you something to do.  Phone wallet! You probably don’t want to carry a huge purse around, so using a phone wallet, lanyard, or small wallet for your bookbag will keep your money and cards without the hassle.  First aid kit! I always keep a mini one with Band-Aids, safety pins, Tylenol, and small scissors, just in case.

Making Friends

Find a group of people within your major and create a study group. Study groups help form great friendships, and you will begin to plan fun activities outside of school with your group! Join your university’s social media pages!  Join an intramural sports team and meet people who share your athletic interests.  Join a club, group, sorority, or fraternity. There are so many options available, and more than likely, you will fit into at least one of them!

Top 5 Apps for College

These apps are a must-download for college! Genius Scan - This app allows you to take pictures and turn them into documents such as PDF files. It will make your handwritten work look very professional and be ready to transfer in seconds! You can even take multiple pictures and label them into a file.   Voice Memos - If your professors will let you record their lectures, do it! I referred back to mine numerous times. If you cannot remember something discussed in class or just do not understand the material, listening to it a second time can be very helpful.   Quizlet - This app is like an electronic set of flashcards. You can make your own set, or even search the course number of your class to see if classmates have already uploaded a set!   K Health - This app is a symptom checker for illnesses and provides information on how to treat your symptoms. There is not much time for sickness in college, and this app can save you from a trip to the doctor!  Gr...
